S3: Seven Star System
S3 is used as a visual way to review things on Living Vicariously. It is used as a visual medium to articulate a positive or negative ranking, crossing over to various subjects. My video game review series, Vicarious Views, uses this system as does my music review feature, Discography. An important note about S3 is that while it is a grade of sorts, the star rankings are affected by numerous factors.
Is it a downloadable EP/game that’s not meant to be a juggernaut? Or is it a major release from a respected band/developer? A $5 game, for example, could get a 5-6 star score and a huge retail release could get a 3-4 star score. It doesn’t mean that one is better than the other necessarily, one of them just had more value for what they were…all of this is merely my personal opinion, of course.
Here is how the S3 works:
Anything that ranks low enough to be one star should be avoided at all costs. It’s just not worth anyone’s time or money. Horrendous.
Anything that receives 2 stars is severely lacking. Fans of the said entity will get some enjoyment out of it to compliment the disappointment. Mediocre.
Anything that receives 3 stars is flawed but worthwhile. Some may enjoy it more than others, accepting the various shortcomings it possess. Unessential.
Anything that receives 4 stars is worthy of some acclaim. While it may not drop your jaw it’s still recommended. Solid.
Anything that receives 5 stars is very well done! One of the higher recommendations something can receive. Fantastic!
Anything that receives 6 stars is unrivaled in many ways and could very well find itself among the best in its league. Even those not into the specific entity might really enjoy this one. Incredible!
Anything that receives 7 stars is as good as it gets.Truly universal as well as unparalleled. An absolute rare gem. Perfection.

Remember, it’s all subjective. The review itself is the most important thing.
