in the experience of another
Okay, but what is this?
Living Vicariously is my personal website. I’ve been into web design and general internet-related shenanigans since I was 13-years-old. To this very day I am fascinated by the idea that we can have these little electronic portals that can house our thoughts, share our memories, keep us in contact, and cross over borders in such an immediate fashion.
What is the purpose of this site?
Your guess is as good as mine. It’s partly to kill some time and have some laughs. It’s also a creative outlet for me to express opinions and put together various media. You’ll see a lot of review style articles and things of that nature, too. I like to get the word out about things I enjoy, and a key component to that is presentation. That’s why I decided to go with a website instead of just a straightforward blog.
Oh. Well, who are you?!
I am Delta Zero – DZ for short. It’s just an alias I use on the internets. To be brief, I’m a 22-year-old guy from the Chicagoland area who likes to write FAQ questions that nobody asked.
Do you have a [insert social network]?
I have everything listed in the blogroll to the right. I use Twitter for site updates and MySpace for communication. You can read about any contact questions under the Contact page. If you need to get a hold of me for whatever reason, check it out.
Can I write/be on your site?
This is an option I’m open to in the future. Not at this time.
What gaming consoles do you have?
I have many. When I was a kid I sold my Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64. I recently re-acquired a N64, so other than the Saturn I have everything that I grew up with along with the modern consoles. Here is a complete list:
- Intellivision
- Nintendo Entertainment System
- Gameboy
- Sega Genesis
- Super Nintendo
- Nintendo 64
- PlayStation
- Gameboy Advance
- Gamecube
- PlayStation 2
- Nintendo DS
- Wii
- PlayStation 3
Most of those are launch models. I do, however, have the rare top-loader NES.
How do you make videos?
Well, first I plan out what I’m going to film. If it’s a sketch or something I’ll have a script printed out and will loosely go by that. If it’s a review I will keynote the things I want to discuss or certain elements I’d want to touch upon, write down the gist of what I’m going to voice over, and record it approximately 3,287 times with an external PC microphone. For any live shots I sort of work as I go, envisioning camera angles and things of that nature beforehand. It’s not a very professional process I assure you, but it’s not just thrown together like a lot of stuff you’ll see on the internet. Once I have the footage I will edit it in a video compiling program, add in any needed effects, intros, credits, etc., and then I back it up on an external hard drive and release my pox onto the world.
What do you use exactly?
My HD camcorder is a JVC GZ-HD30U model. For photo editing and general graphic design I use Adobe Photoshop CS4. For audio production I use FL Studio 8 and Audacity. For vocal dubbing I use a AT2020 USB condenser mic. Video editing is done all by Sony Vegas 8.0. Everything is put together in that compositing program. Video capturing is either done by PC using Camtasia Studio or done with my digital DVD recorder.
Wait, how old is Living Vicariously?
The whole Living Vicariously project started in late 2006. You can read all about the roots of the site and the old show in the History section (just click on the tab!). I don’t do the show in the old format any longer for numerous reasons, mainly on account of time constraints and the fun task of organizing everyone’s work/school schedules for a non-profit internet show seen by only two-dozen people. Again, if you’re curious about the old show just check out the History tab.
Is From the Vault the old show?
From the Vault is all the old stuff I shot between 2007 and 2008. It’s rendered in higher quality with extra scenes, new dialog, better pacing, and other neat little enhancements. There’s plenty of unseen and extended footage to be viewed, too. In essence, From the Vault is just a collection of the old stuff in more “bite-sized” portions.
[Random critique questioning my sexuality]
That’s not really a question. Keep in mind that this entire site is just a fun thing that I do with my free time. Some of it is self-indulgent, some of it is kinda silly, some of it isn’t all that funny or insightful. It’s just…what it is, you know? I’m not a professional, and I sure as hell do not do this for a living.
